Moxifloxacin-induced mental status change

Introduction: Moxifloxacin is an antibiotic used orally or parenterally in the emergency department (ED) for treatment of various infections, especially acute exacerbation chronic bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia. The side effects drug are mainly on gastrointestinal system, while central nervous system rare. Case report: Herein, we present elderly patient who had altered mental status associated with use moxifloxacin. Upon discontinuation drug, quickly returned to baseline neurologic status. In evaluation patients ED, much effort should be spent primarily ruling out more complex diagnoses. However, this approach requires invasive advanced testing. Conclusion: Considering among these complicated diagnoses may increase noninvasive radiation-free options physician.
